From Clay to Carved:
Decorative Pottery for Makers
Learn Asa’s complete carved pottery process through 35+ step-by-step video lessons and 5+ hours of instruction, and discover how to transform a simple clay form into a carved piece full of texture, pattern, and character.
From Simple Form to Something Uniquely Yours
That’s the beauty of carving. You’re not simply decorating the surface, you’re learning how to work with the form, build rhythm, create depth, and give the piece its own character.
Inside the course, we’ll show you how to approach that transformation step by step, so you can move from a simple vessel to something that feels considered, expressive, and unmistakably yours.
The difference isn’t perfection. It’s learning what to look for, where to make the next mark, and trusting your hands as the piece begins to come alive.
Start with the process. Learn to trust your hands. Then make it your own.
MEET YOUR TEACHERS
We're Asa & Daisy
We’re potters, partners, and the makers behind The King and The Flower.
Clay has shaped so many parts of our lives, our work, our family, and the way we see the world. Through our studio and our teaching, we love helping others slow down, enjoy the process, and create pottery that feels personal and entirely their own.
Inside this course, we’ll guide you through our complete carved pottery process, from forming and preparing your piece to underglazing, carving, glazing, and firing. Asa will share his carving techniques step by step, while Daisy brings her eye for design, thoughtful details, and creating pieces with texture, rhythm, and character.
We believe the most beautiful work comes from understanding the process deeply enough to make it your own. Our hope is that this course gives you not only new techniques, but the confidence to keep exploring, experimenting, and creating pieces that feel unmistakably yours.

Over the years, we’ve had the joy of teaching makers at different stages of their pottery journey. Here are a few words from people who’ve learned with us.
Asa was patient, encouraging, and explained everything in a way that was easy to follow. Even though I’m definitely no expert, he made me feel like I could actually do it. Also, 100% agree with another reviewer, I wish it were possible to give more than 5 stars.
Asa was super clear, making it easy to dive in and get creative. The instructor was not just talented but also incredibly supportive.
The King and the Flower deserves more than 5 stars! Daisy and Asa are such patient and encouraging teachers. We’ll be a part of this fulfilling community for as long as they’ll have us!
My daughter-in-law and I have completed several courses, and each one has been outstanding. Asa creates a supportive environment that encourages personal exploration while offering thoughtful guidance every step of the way.
I’m so grateful I found The King & The Flower Pottery. Asa has a gift for explaining not just how to do something, but why it works, and his teaching has helped me build a much stronger foundation and confidence in my pottery journey. His beautiful carving and sgraffito work is amazing.
